I have been trying to make the most of winter in spite of the unpredictable weather. A couple of weekends ago, I made it to Marion, Virginia to catch a taping of Song of the Mountains at the fabulously restored Lincoln Theatre. Besides being treated to the melodious performances of The Smith Family and Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, I also experienced a blizzard!

Since then I have been trying to avoid frozen precipitation. I enjoyed a calm, sunny Friday recently practicing landing the cub “on the numbers.” Here is a “bird’s eye” view of one landing:
