We stumbled across a very odd tree trunk during our visit to Hungry Mother State Park and made this video about it. Later we learned that they ruined not one, but two chainsaws on this tree. We never did find anyone who knew why the tree had consumed the concrete marker.

It’s Sunny and Stormy in New Zealand – The Saga Ends
Just as our vacation had to eventually end, so does this story. We took a little time to experience more of the many attractions in and around Queenstown. We actually saw a kiwi in the birdlife museum. For those of you who don’t know what a kiwi bird is, they are nocturnal, flightless birds about […]
It’s Sunny and Stormy in New Zealand – Episode 7

It’s Sunny and Stormy in New Zealand – Episode 6

We left the planes on the ground and set out on wheels to explore the nearby vineyards. This one is short as you just can’t cover as much […]
Sunny and Stormy in New Zealand – Episode 5
This episode includes landings at a couple of mountain airstrips. They were lots of fun and challenging but less challenging than the agricultural strips strips that Matt pointed out to us along the way to Mandeville. Stormy was very impressed with the workshop at Mandeville where we got to watch craftsmen create wooden spars, ribs […]
It’s Sunny and Stormy in New Zealand – Episode 4
Even though this episode is short, it is one of my favorites because after much effort I actually captured the sound of the air traffic controller’s voice to play with one of the flying clips. With the inexpensive equipment that I use, recording a sound from our headsets turned out to be quite a feat. […]
