We have been having a ball visiting all our NC friends as we moved around this area over the last couple of weeks. Thanks to everyone who was able to squeeze a little time for a visit with us during this busy holiday time. I appreciate all the travel ideas and suggestions and especially want to thank Donna for insisting that we stop by the Sylvan Heights Bird Park in Scotland Neck, NC before we head south.
We made the best of last Sunday’s warm weather and paid the park a visit. While there we viewed all 3 types of flamingos on display. We also spent a good 20 minutes being entertained by an amorous peacock. We were captivated by his elaborate rustling and feather display, but unfortunately for him the pea hen appeared to remain indifferent. Feeding the parakeets and flamingos was almost overwhelming and I feared I would never get all of the curious birds out of my pockets before we left.
For any southbound RV friends who would like a pleasant 2-3 hour stop on the way through NC, the park is just 30 minutes off of I-95. Be sure to check their website for accurate directions as a GPS may not have them correctly located. They have a huge bus parking lot just before you get to the main car lot so parking a big rig will be no problem.
