Safely Parked in Benson

Oh great now we have to worry about bicyclists falling from the sky!

On our way to dinner before we leave Austin, Monte makes a dry departure run with me in the Jeep so that I understand my exit route.  Good thing too, because my RV GPS attempts to make me do a U-turn over a Jersey barrier in the construction zone on our way out of Austin after our weekend visit.  Challenged only by the 17 mile stretch of narrow, twisty free for all through El Paso, we enjoy a pleasant drive west after escaping Austin’s maze.

We gain an hour heading into New Mexico (and MST).  Our early arrival in Las Cruces permits us to manage a quick Jeep ride out to White Sands National Park.  We cap off this excursion with a scrumptious Pizza/Sangria supper at Luna Rossa within walking distance of Hacienda, our luxurious RV park which features humongous campsites.  Our stop in Las Cruces turns out to be a treat in every way!

After attempting this sledless slide downhill, Michele spends 2 days trying to remove sand from places where sand does not belong!

Benson Adventures

Thanks a MILLION to Michele for making this odyssey fun with a successful ending! You are the greatest!!

With little ado, Michele and I check in at Benson on Wednesday afternoon as scheduled.  In spite of the many warning signs along this route, we manage to avoid any dire entanglements.  In fact the dwindling traffic headed westward makes my drive much more pleasant.

Just in case our travels do not go as planned, Michele builds a couple of extra days into her plans.  Since her flight does not depart until Saturday afternoon, I am able to show her a few sights around Benson.  I am thrilled to do so as a small repayment of the huge gift she gives me by joining me on this trek across the southern US!  See the photos below for a recap of our outings.
