Prepping for Fiesta

The last few weeks have been busy for me as I help to prepare the RV parking area for the hundreds of rigs headed this way for the 50th Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.  This place, like others where I spent a lot of time with Storm is filled with bittersweet memories for me.

I think he would be amazed that I have joined the layout crew.  When not needed to stuff goody bags for arriving guests, I help mark the dirt with parking places for RVs.  When Storm and I volunteered here before women were not allowed to participate in this work.  I like it because it is outdoors and it keeps me busy until Fiesta starts.

Even though Fiesta does not begin until Oct 1, balloons are up each morning prior to the opening.
A 20' rod helps me mark the space width for an RV
Sadly the rain washed away the lime markings I made for the front of the RV site. Had to mark them again the next day.
When we can get together in the afternoons, my friends and I have a jam session.
This double rainbow marks the end of a downpour that erased all the lime that marked the RV spaces. More work for the volunteers!!!!
Each morning more and more balloons take to the sky. Hundreds will be overhead once Fiesta starts. This one comes so close over my rig, I could have talked to the passengers.

Glad you are there and I know that Storm would be proud of you too. Almost went there once but the roads were not marked very well for us to find the place and I figured it would be packed anyway so we just drove through. Good to see the jam part too, I need to find some folks and do the same. Hurricane Ian just went through today, neighbors lost some power for a couple of hours but ours was fine, it is over for us now and we can have a peaceful night I hope. Keep up the good work and can’t wait to see the blog you send out when the balloons are all up one morning or afternoon. GOD BLESS

It was great seeing you again and working on the South Field, even if it did rain a lot. Enjoyed being outside and not in stuffing bags. Sure would be great to get all of our old friends back together again.
