Last Sunday we sucked in our slides, uncovered our wheels and transformed the RV back into a bus. Once roadworthy, we left a trail of good-byes and hugs for our friends as we departed 2017 Balloon Fiesta. As a farewell to the kaleidoscope of lighter than air characters who performed overhead daily for us here, I compiled this video showing parts of the Special Shapes Rodeo and Glowdeo. I hoped to record more video from the Glowdeo, but untimely winds caused the Senorita balloon to make a surprise twilight departure from her tether. After that incident, the glow twinkled to an end as pilots raced to safely deflate.
During Fiesta many people ask me “Where do the balloons land?” The answer is “everywhere,” although as you can see from the video they gently alight in the RV park to the thrill of campers and volunteers. Once down some kind pilots give impromptu tethered rides delighting those lucky enough to briefly go aloft.
Finally if you are curious about the names of some of these imaginatively designed creations, you can look them up by clicking here.
